Tumors may have found its match in a treatment, called CAR-T therapy, that helps the immune system fight deadly blood cancers, which shows early signs of promise against the tumors. CAR-T therapy involves genetically modifying some of a patient’s own cells to help them recognize and attack cancer.
Doctors hope that the cost of CAR-T therapy will drop, because CAR-T therapies are currently around $400,000, even though they can be made for far less than that in research centers.
Despite cost, this is looking to be the answer we've been looking for, as far as leukemias and lymphomas go as they are currently the only cancers the therapy has been thoroughly tested with.
